iPad App store slowed down by photos!
Yes, a very mysterious effect … but after experimenting for days on the issue of slow connectivity of my iPad (WiFi tests, App store tests), I have a conclusion / solution – but it’s stupid and disappointing …
Here, I’ve video’ed my iPad loading the App store when it has just a few hundred photos loaded on it – as you can see, it loads in about 7s, just as fast as it did when wiped clean at the Apple store yesterday:
Now, I’ve put all my photos on to my iPad – more than 20,000 of them, occupying almost 20GB of storage! The iPad browses photos perfectly well with this many, easily scrubbing through them in the slideshow view … but apparently these photos have the amazingly curious effect of hugely slowing down the App store loading time:
With lots of photos, the App store takes over 20s to load – more than 3 times slower than possible (and I’ve seen it take more than 30s to load!)
OK, Apple, here’s the first iPad bug I’ve seen – please fix it
(PS: in case you’re interested, video taken, trimmed, and uploaded, by iPhone 3GS – so easy to do!)
